Putting a server you own, into a datacenter that you do not own.

A set of rules that describe how a Web Server communicates with another piece of software on the same machine, and how the other piece of software (the “CGI program”) talks to the web server. Any piece of software can be a CGI program if it handles input and output according to the CGI standard.You can often see that a CGI program is being used by seeing “cgi-bin” in a URL.

Control Panel

A Control Panel is a management tool. In web Hosting, this typically refers to the tools used to manage your web hosting account(s). LiveHost.net uses cPanel, for our clients. you may log into your cPanel control panel, and mange many different facets of your web hosting package, including (but certainly not limited to) setting up mailboxes, and checking stats on your web sites visitors.

cPanel

A web hosting package, designed to be installed after Linux, to create a base web hosting environment.

cPanel installs and keeps updated many other products, like Apache, mySQL, proFTP, phpMyAdmin, and hundreds of other pieces, including it's own control panel, where webmasters can manage their own mailboxes, web server, databases and more.
